Pitch Diameter is one of the most common types of standard drawn arc weld studs. The pitch diameter is not fully threaded. The weld base is slightly larger than full thread arc studs, giving the studs a higher shear value. The pitch diameter is best suited when the mating part covers the unthreaded portion of the weld stud.
The unthreaded weld base minimizes weld fillet diameter and height. It also reduces the possibility of the stud hanging up in the ferrule if the gun parts are slightly misaligned.
