SOYER Wins Innovation Prize for Threaded Studs with a Flat Level Weld Base
Awarded by Germany's Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, this year's Federal Prize for outstanding innovation in industry and trade recognizes for the eighth time Heinz Soyer Studwelding's innovative strength.
Hartmut Schauerte, Germany's Parliamentary State Secretary, awarded this coveted innovation prize to Heinz Soyer Studwelding at a festive ceremony at this year's international trade fair in Munich on 15 March.
The innovation prize recognizes SOYER's development of a threaded stud with a flat level weld base which allows the complete usage of the thread length up to the surface of the parent material when welded on. The use of the new design weld studs in combination with the new magnetic field stud welding technique and the BMK-16i stud welder produces a weld with no spatter and weld fillet.
This patented welding innovation (Patent No. 10 2006 016 553) offers major user benefits and opens up new fields of application. The application of threaded studs with a flat level weld base provides numerous advantages:
The new design weld studs do not require any pre-treatment or special machining prior to being welded. They are available in all materials at short notice and at competitive prices. When using the magnetic field stud welding process, the weld studs can also be welded onto thin gauge sheet metal. The ratio between sheet thickness and stud diameter is one to ten. Further benefits include a complete fusion across the stud flange with approx. 50% energy saving and a simple, cost-efficient fully automatic stud feed - no sorting required as both ends of the stud can be welded. Threaded studs with a flat level weld base can be welded using all energy sources and stud welding guns suitable for short-cycle drawn arc stud welding in radially symmetrical magnetic fields.
